What is the chemical behavior of lithium stearate?

The metal salts of fatty acids (so-called soaps) are primarily used as detergents. Their molecules are easily attached to both polar molecules (from water) and non-polar molecules (from oil).

Lithium stearate, like many other stearate, including cadmium stearate, is insoluble in water.

What is the use of lithium salt in industry?

Lithium soap, unlike other metal soaps such as sodium and potassium that are used as detergents and cleaners, is used in industry as one of the raw materials for the production of lithium grease. Lithium soap is formed by the reaction of lithium salt with a fatty acid. To produce lithium-based soaps, a triglyceride soaping reaction using lithium hydroxide or lithium carbonate is used. These lithium soaps, are one of the components of lubricants and release agents at high temperatures. It is used as a general lubricating grease that has a high resistance to water.
